All Aboard for Train!                                                                                                                                         Advertise in our Train programs. Produced by Barefoot Studios and funded in part by the Tacoma Arts and Washington State Arts Commissions, Train is a series of performances and a visual art exhibition to be produced at Barefoot Studios and other sites in Tacoma with current or historic connections to local railroad activity during the month of May 2008. Tacoma’s railroad heritage and the artists’ personal train stories provide the thematic material for Train.

Free mini-performances will be presented at: the Sounder and Link platforms at Freighthouse Square/Tacoma Dome Station; the University of Washington, Tacoma during their scheduled campus tours; downtown Tacoma in front of Union Station on Pacific Avenue; and MetroParks’ Dickman Mill Park and Jack Hyde Park along Ruston Way and Old Town Park/Job Carr Cabin Museum in Old Town Tacoma.

Evening length works will be presented at Barefoot Studios May 2, 3, 9, 10. A visual art installation, scheduled to run throughout May, will be exhibited at Barefoot Studios, 1604 Center Street, Tacoma.

The roster of artists for Train include Callous Physical Theatre, poet G.B. Waldschmidt, conceptual artist Cara J. Jennings, spoken word artist Lucas Smiraldo, performance artist/film maker Meg McHutchison, the Folksingers in Hell featuring David Fewster and Heidi Fosner, choreographer Katharine M. Stricker, photographer Gary Lappier, choreographer Michael Hoover and André Bouchard, artistic director of Seattle’s Walrus Dance Company.

Train is a unique event in Tacoma and will provide paid performance opportunities for local and regional performing artists in dance, spoken word, music, and performance art; take advantage of the unique outdoor performance spaces of Tacoma’s beautiful parks, downtown district, and urban university; increase exposure of the performing arts through free outdoor performance events; and nurture the perception of Tacoma as a destination for culture and art.
